The energy consumed in our office buildings is a small fraction of the company’s overall footprint, but our actions in these marketing offices is a continuation of the overall sustainability strategy valued and adopted by all Olam employees. We are developing green initiatives by improving energy consumption, waste recycling and usage of sustainable supplies. The nomination of green champions at all corporate sites coupled with a substantial internal communications campaign represents active improvements in this area.
Our first complete green building is the west coast office in California which exceeds the state’s energy standards by 125%. Its construction includes a ‘Cool Roof’ using PVC membranes and occupancy detector lighting control fitted throughout.
Additionally, the Atlanta office has recently been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, providing staff with an energy-efficient, environmentally sound and sustainable office.
