Our operations in Brazil first began in 2002 with cashew trading under Olam Brazil. In 2004, we added coffee to our portfolio, dealing both in export and domestic demand through Outspan Exportação & Importação. Today, we represent both Arabica and Robusta Coffees across Brazil’s important coffee producing regions, and have built up a leadership position for all coffee grades, making us among the top five coffee players in the country. We are also enhancing our coffee sustainability efforts and launching key initiatives to ensure the certification of our coffee to UTZ, 4C and Rainforest Alliance standards.

In 2005, we opened our main office for Olam Brazil Limited in São Paulo to take on our sugar and cotton businesses, recently venturing into upstream cotton farming operations to strengthen our leadership position as one of Brazil’s top three cotton exporters. Subsequently, in 2008, we started our spices and sesame import business and followed this with the launch of our rice and wheat operations.

Today, our Brazilian operations comprise 14 corporate offices and 11 plants, staffed by 278 employees.
